Emmons hosting ‘Shine the Light on Human Trafficking Day’ at the Capitol

Sen. Judy Emmons, R-Sheridan; Human Trafficking survivor, author and expert Theresa Flores; current and former legislators; human trafficking prevention experts; and concerned citizens.

Emmons will host the Shine the Light on Human Trafficking Day at the Michigan Capitol with special guest Theresa Flores. The day is part of an ongoing effort to raise awareness of the crime and find solutions that address the problem and support victims. Highlights of the day include hearing expert testimony during a committee hearing and breakout sessions to share ideas.

Human Trafficking is the world’s second-largest and fastest-growing criminal industry. Sen. Emmons is the Senate point-person on the issue of human trafficking and is working in a bipartisan effort to protect Michigan women and children from trafficking and put an end to the crime.

9:30 a.m. — Welcoming remarks, introductions and breakout sessions.

10:30 a.m.* — Hear expert testimony during meeting of the Senate Families, Seniors and Human Services Committee, which Emmons chairs.

11:30 a.m.* — Visit the Senate gallery. Possible meet and greet with legislative sponsors of human trafficking bills.

12:30 to 1:30 p.m.* — Break for lunch.

1:30 to 3:30 p.m.* — Breakout session for networking and sharing ideas.

3:30 p.m.* — Prayer vigil.
