LANSING, Mich. — Sen. Judy Emmons, R-Sheridan, welcomed Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe Chief Steve Pego (right) and tribe council members Ron Nelson and Michelle Stanley to the Capitol on Thursday. The tribe leaders were in the Capitol with leaders of the 12 federally recognized Indian tribes located within the state for Michigan Indian Day, which is celebrated every the fourth Friday in September.
Michigan Indian Day is celebrated in recognition of the significant contributions of the 12 nations, their citizens and their predecessors to Michigan’s history and future.
