Sen. Emmons comments on State of the State address

LANSING?State Sen. Judy Emmons, R-Sheridan, issued the following statement on Thursday after Gov. Rick Snyder delivered his State of the State address:

“The governor once again outlined a plan of positive action to continue the building of a better, more vibrant Michigan — one with more jobs and opportunities.

“I appreciated the governor recognizing our work to help protect all Michigan children with the OK-2-SAY student hotline. This 24-hour, 365-days-per-year confidential tip line is about preventing school tragedies and saving lives.

“We achieved much over the last three years to create a climate for job growth that has already resulted in the creation of more than 220,000 jobs.

“Michigan is made up of good people who deserve opportunities and freedom. Governor Snyder understands that we must continue our commitment to education; support our farmers, veterans and small business owners; and meet the needs of our aging population. We have a surplus and I believe part of it should go to giving hardworking families some relief.

“Standing up for all Michigan residents also means doing all we can to free victims from the bondage of human trafficking. I share the governor’s positive vision for Michigan. We’re heading in the right direction, but as long as there are people struggling to make ends meet or looking for work, there is more to do.”
