LANSING, Mich. — Sen. Judy Emmons announced on Friday that she will be hosting a Human Trafficking Awareness Outreach Event at the Michigan Capitol on June 13.
“This outreach event is about bringing attention to human trafficking, its life-altering effect on hundreds of women and children each year and how prevalent it is in our state,” said Emmons, R-Sheridan. “I encourage all concerned Michigan residents to come out and show their support and to join us as we announce the next phase of action to combat this heinous crime and support its survivors.”
In 2014, the Legislature passed and the governor signed a 21-bill package that included the formation of the Michigan Human Trafficking Commission.
“Although we have achieved much in this fight against human trafficking, more progress is needed,” Emmons said.
The event’s hashtag is #stophumantrafficking and will feature roundtable discussions and an announcement of further legislation.
